Uri Infiltration Attempt Foiled by Indian Army

On March 15, 2026, the Indian Army successfully foiled an infiltration attempt along the Line of Control (LoC) in Uri, Baramulla district, Jammu and Kashmir, resulting in the death of a Pakistani terrorist. The operation was launched during the night of March 14-15, following specific intelligence regarding a cross-border intrusion attempt.
During the operation, security forces recovered warlike stores, including an AK rifle, pistols, and a large quantity of ammunition from the slain terrorist. The operation involved troops from both the Indian Army and the Jammu and Kashmir Police.
According to the Indian Army, “The terrorist opened indiscriminate fire, triggering a brief gunfight in which he was neutralised.” This exchange of fire occurred in the Buchhar area of Uri, which has been a hotspot for infiltration attempts in the past, particularly as the summer season approaches.
In a related incident, a Junior Commissioned Officer, Subedar Sandeep Kumar Dhaka, lost his life during a separate anti-terror operation in the Poonch district around 2:30 pm on the same day.
The Indian Army stated, “Based on a specific intelligence input provided by JKP regarding an infiltration attempt, a joint operation was launched in the general area of Buchhar in the Uri sector.” This highlights the ongoing challenges faced by security forces in the region.
Details remain unconfirmed regarding the broader implications of this infiltration attempt, but the Uri sector has a history of similar incidents, which raises concerns about security and stability in the area.
As the situation develops, official statements from the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police are expected to provide further insights into the operation and its outcomes.
