Indane Gas Booking Issues Cause Long Queues in Lucknow

Long Queues and Booking Issues
Residents in Lucknow are experiencing significant disruptions in booking Indane gas cylinders, resulting in long queues outside LPG distributing agencies. The online booking system, which includes the IVRS helpline and other digital platforms, has reportedly stopped functioning due to a technical snag.
Customers have expressed frustration, with some waiting for hours to secure their gas cylinders. Hasan Faisal, a local resident, noted, “I bought a cylinder for Rs 1,050 while the regular rate is around Rs 900. In a crisis, we have to manage somehow because there is no supply.” This situation has forced some to turn to the black market for their gas needs.
Concerns Over Supply and Fraud
Many residents are worried about running out of gas before their refills arrive, especially given that the IVR system may disconnect users attempting to book a second refill within 25 days of the previous booking. A woman reported needing assistance for her gas booking as it was not processed, highlighting the widespread nature of the issue.
Additionally, a Bengaluru-based customer, Madhu Menon, accused Indane of fraud, claiming that cylinders were booked in his name but not delivered. He stated, “Got this message saying my last cylinder was delivered on 25 Feb and I can’t order again till late March. Except I haven’t ordered a new cylinder since early 2025! Then I discovered clear fraud!” This raises further concerns about the integrity of the distribution process.
Background and Future Outlook
The disruption in gas supply has been attributed to a shortage of commercial LPG cylinders, influenced by geopolitical issues involving countries like Iran, the US, and Israel. In response, the Centre has revised the priority order for domestically produced natural gas.
Despite these challenges, LPG companies have reported that their booking systems are functioning normally. Consumers are encouraged to utilize alternative digital booking methods, such as SMS booking and missed call services, to circumvent the current issues.
Agency staff have acknowledged the problem, stating, “There is a server issue right now. It should be resolved soon.” However, details remain unconfirmed regarding when the online booking system will be fully operational again.
