Ishan Kishan, the India wicketkeeper-batter, has ascended to the top position in the ICC Men’s T20I Batting Rankings, replacing teammate Abhishek Sharma. This change follows India’s recent two-match T20 International series against Ireland in Belfast, which India lost 2-0. Kishan’s rise marks the first time he has reached the summit of the T20I batting rankings, making him the fourth Indian player to achieve this feat, following Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, and Abhishek Sharma.

Kishan’s strong performances, including his contributions at the ICC T20 World Cup earlier this year where he amassed 317 runs, have contributed to his career-best rating. Abhishek Sharma’s reign at the top of the ICC Men’s T20I Batting Rankings concludes after an 11-month period.

Changes in Test batting and bowling rankings

In the ICC Men’s Test Batting Rankings, Australia batter Travis Head has climbed to the number one spot for the first time in his career. This shift occurred after England’s Joe Root and Harry Brook experienced drops in their rating points following their performances in the third Test against New Zealand. Root and Brook lost 31 and 14 points respectively. Head now holds 853 rating points, placing him just one point ahead of Brook, while Root has moved to third place, a week after beginning his 12th stint at the top of the rankings. Head is the first Australian to lead the Test Batting Rankings since Marnus Labuschagne in June 2023.

Several other players also saw movements in the Test rankings. For New Zealand, centurions Daryl Mitchell moved up five places to 11th, Devon Conway advanced 14 places to 15th, and Tom Latham gained 12 places to 31st after their team secured a 2-1 victory in the ICC World Test Championship series. England opener Ben Duckett’s first innings century helped him move from 17th to 14th place.

In the ICC Men’s Test Bowling Rankings, Jasprit Bumrah has reclaimed the top spot. This follows Matt Henry’s absence from the Nottingham Test due to injury, which resulted in a one percent loss of his points tally. Henry had only recently taken the top position from Bumrah a week prior. Nathan Smith, who was the leading wicket-taker in the series, moved up eight places to 38th, and William O’Rourke advanced five places to 27th.

England captain Ben Stokes concluded his Test career as the 34th-ranked bowler, having moved up three slots. He also finished as the third-ranked all-rounder, climbing two positions, and is ranked 54th in the Test batting rankings.

Other notable movements in rankings

The latest weekly update also took into account performances from the first Test between the West Indies and Sri Lanka, as well as the one-off Test between Zimbabwe and Bangladesh. From Sri Lanka, Dhananjay de Silva moved up six places to 21st in the batting rankings.

For the West Indies, Roston Chase advanced 14 places to 79th in the batting rankings. In the bowling rankings, Shamar Joseph of the West Indies moved up nine places to 14th, and Kemar Roach gained four places to 17th. Blessing Muzarabani from Zimbabwe also saw an improvement, moving up six places to 19th among bowlers.

In the ICC Men’s T20I Batting Rankings, following the series against India, Ireland’s Lorean Tucker, who scored a half-century in the first match, advanced four places to 77th. Harry Tector moved up one place to 79th, and Ross Adair climbed six slots to 84th. Seam bowler Matthew Humphreys of Ireland, who took four wickets in the series, moved up one place to 25th in the bowling rankings.
