India School Summer Holidays 2026 Announced Amid Heatwave

Severe heatwave conditions have led to an early announcement of summer vacations across multiple Indian states for 2026. In Delhi, schools will close from May 11 to June 30, giving students a full 50 days of summer vacation.
Key dates for summer holidays:
- Uttar Pradesh: May 20 to June 15 (40 days)
- Bihar: June 1 to June 20 (20 days)
- Rajasthan: May 17 to June 20 (34 days)
- Haryana: June 1 to June 30 (30 days)
- Chhattisgarh: April 20 to June 15 (56 days)
- Andhra Pradesh and Telangana: April 24 to June 11 (48 days)
- Odisha: Starting from April 27
- West Bengal: Vacations ongoing, with end dates expected soon
This unprecedented decision stems from the severe heatwave gripping the nation. Many parents express concern over sending their children to Anganwadi schools during such extreme conditions. “It has become difficult for parents to drop their children at Anganwadi schools and pick them up after half-day classes due to severe heatwaves,” remarked Renuka, a concerned parent.
Moreover, Anganwadi teachers have noted that many parents are reluctant to send their children due to fears of heat-related illnesses. “Fearing heatwaves which may cause fevers and sunstroke, parents are not willing to send their children to Anganwadi Schools,” they stated.
The early start of summer holidays also coincides with election results in some regions, which may further impact school schedules. As this situation unfolds, observers will be keenly watching how these measures affect student attendance and overall educational outcomes during a year marked by extreme weather.
