West Bengal Election Results Show Record Voter Turnout

The West Bengal Assembly election recorded a remarkable nearly 93% voter turnout across two phases, marking the highest engagement since Independence. The second phase alone achieved a record 92.65% turnout, underscoring a significant moment in Indian democracy.

This election involved polling in 142 Assembly seats across seven districts in south Bengal. Notably, Purba Bardhaman led with a staggering 93.39%, followed closely by Hooghly at 91.41%, South 24 Parganas at 91.45%, North 24 Parganas at 91.39%, and Nadia at 91.35%.

The Election Commission of India has set May 4, 2026, for counting the votes, starting at 8:00 AM. Initial trends are expected shortly after counting begins, and final results should be available by that evening.

This high level of participation reflects not only the political climate in West Bengal but also the electorate’s engagement—an encouraging sign for future elections. Historically, this is the highest rate of polling in any West Bengal Assembly election since Independence.
