Chelsea are currently in discussions to sign Brighton striker Danny Welbeck. Since joining Brighton from Watford in 2020, he has scored 51 goals in 201 matches.

The pursuit of Welbeck aligns with Chelsea’s evolving transfer strategy. Influential owner Behdad Eghbali indicated in April that the club’s model of signing young players needed an adjustment, suggesting a move towards more experienced talent. This approach is also evident in their attempts to sign 33-year-old midfielder Granit Xhaka from Sunderland, although Sunderland declined to sell the Switzerland captain.
Chelsea has already secured Morgan Rogers for a club-record £117m and Marco Palestra, and is reportedly nearing a deal for centre-back Maxence Lacroix. While Rogers, 23, fits the club’s preference for younger players, he also brings significant Premier League experience. The potential arrival of Lacroix, 26, would further add to the Premier League-ready experience within the squad.
