Oslo: Erling Haaland returns home with unique World Cup souvenirs

Haaland’s Unusual Souvenirs

Norway star Erling Haaland returned to Oslo after Norway’s elimination from the World Cup quarter-finals, bringing with him some distinctive mementos from his time in the United States. Following a 2-1 loss to England, the Manchester City striker was seen disembarking the team plane with a taxidermied raccoon in one hand and a new designer bag.

The taxidermied raccoon, dubbed “Whiskey Raccoon” by one source, was purchased during Haaland’s visit to Wild Bill’s Western Store in Dallas, Texas. The raccoon, which is depicted holding an empty bottle of Greenall’s wild berry gin, was previously listed for sale at $750. Haaland also acquired a cowboy hat, boots, and a T-shirt from the store.

In addition to the raccoon, Haaland carried a Dolce & Gabbana Sicily tote. This ecru canvas bag, featuring burgundy alligator accents, was recently showcased at the spring 2027 menswear show in Milan.

Dallas Visit and Store Impact

Wild Bill’s Western Store owner, Julie Newport, confirmed that Haaland purchased the raccoon and other items, rather than receiving them as gifts. Newport stated that the store had a few taxidermy raccoons available, and Haaland gravitated towards one, along with some stuffed squirrels. Following Haaland’s social media posts about his purchase, the store experienced a significant increase in demand, with the specific raccoon model quickly selling out.

Haaland expressed his enjoyment of Dallas, describing it as “amazing” and “unbelievable.” He indicated his intention to return to the city, praising the local people for their positive demeanor. His visit to Wild Bill’s occurred after Norway’s 2-1 victory against Ivory Coast in their round-of-16 match at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

The store’s management was contacted the day before Norway’s last-16 match about a potential visit from a team member. To ensure privacy for Haaland and his teammates, the store doors were reportedly locked for about an hour and a half, allowing them to explore the store freely. Newport noted that the team spent considerable time ensuring Haaland’s hat fit correctly and educating them on the products.

Haaland has continued to share his new companion on social media. He posted a video showing the raccoon alongside stuffed squirrels on what appeared to be a hotel window ledge. Later, he posted on X, stating that the raccoon “followed him home” from the United States. He also sought name suggestions for his new buddy on Instagram, offering options like “Cowboy,” “Ranger,” “Tex,” and “R.O.W. (Raccoon on wheels).”

Increased Popularity and International Reach

Haaland’s debut at the World Cup was notable, with him scoring seven goals in five matches. His on-pitch performance and off-field personality contributed to a surge in his popularity in the U.S., reportedly gaining over 22 million Instagram followers during the tournament.

The exposure from Haaland’s visit has significantly impacted Wild Bill’s Western Store. Julie Newport confirmed that a new banner on their website, “Now shipping internationally,” was added following Haaland’s visit. Previously, the store did not conduct business outside the U.S. Newport reported approximately 2,000 online orders, with about 30 percent being international, and orders continuing to increase daily. The store’s top-selling product, previously Texas-sized jelly beans, has now shifted due to the demand for items related to Haaland’s purchases, particularly boots and hats.

The store has also created a display featuring Haaland’s picture, which has become a focal point for visitors. Haaland autographed two FIFA balls and Newport’s hat during his visit, further cementing the impact of his trip on the store.

Haaland’s social media post on X, dated July 13, 2026, confirmed his new companion “followed him home.”
