Young Cricketer’s Wimbledon Experience

Indian batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi recently attended the Wimbledon 2026 men’s singles final at the iconic All England Club in London. The 15-year-old cricketer was present for the match between Jannik Sinner and Alexander Zverev, marking his first live experience at a Grand Slam event. He was joined by fellow India opener Abhishek Sharma and former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh at Centre Court. Another notable presence from the cricket world was Sanju Samson, who also attended the final.

Sooryavanshi, who recently made his senior India debut, expressed his excitement about observing how players approach a major final. He mentioned that he wanted to see how two leading tennis players dealt with the pressure and expectations of such a significant match. This visit followed his maiden international series for India, where he became the youngest player to represent the country at the international level at 15 years and 99 days old, surpassing a long-standing record.

The young cricketer’s appearance at Wimbledon added to a strong Indian cricket presence at this year’s championships. Earlier in the week, Sachin Tendulkar and Shubman Gill had attended the men’s singles semi-finals. The final day shifted the spotlight to the next generation of cricketers, with Vaibhav Sooryavanshi joining cricketing figures like Yuvraj Singh, Abhishek Sharma, and Sanju Samson.

Outfit and Tennis Favourites

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi garnered attention for his formal attire at the event, which included a black blazer, white shirt, striped tie, and tinted sunglasses. This look was a departure from the Indian jersey and Rajasthan Royals colours that fans are accustomed to seeing him in. However, he revealed that the outfit was arranged at the last minute, crediting Abhishek Sharma for his assistance.

In a light-hearted moment, Sooryavanshi explained, “Nahi kuch kiya nahi, but jaldi jaldi mein bas jo mila mujhe mein maine Abhishek bhai se bolke arrange karaya aur daal kar aaya hu.” He further elaborated that he did not plan anything specific and simply put on whatever could be found quickly, with Abhishek helping to arrange it. He also mentioned that if he were to play tennis doubles, he would choose Abhishek Sharma as his partner, citing their established opening partnership in international cricket.

Despite his rapid rise in cricket, Sooryavanshi shared his long-standing interest in tennis, stating he has been following the sport for four or five years. He grew up watching legends like Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic, with Djokovic eventually becoming his favourite. He noted, “Abhi bhi Djokovic bohot pasand hai.”

Match Prediction and Cricket Achievements

Among the current generation of tennis players, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi expressed admiration for Carlos Alcaraz, though he noted that Alcaraz was not playing in this year’s tournament. He was particularly impressed by Jannik Sinner’s dominant performance throughout the tournament and predicted that Sinner would win the final. His prediction proved accurate as Sinner defeated Alexander Zverev with a score of 6-7 (7), 7-6 (2), 6-3, 6-4, securing his second consecutive Wimbledon men’s singles crown and his fifth Grand Slam title.

This Wimbledon appearance follows a remarkable period for Sooryavanshi. He earned his maiden India call-up after finishing IPL 2026 as the leading run-scorer, amassing 776 runs in 16 matches and becoming the youngest Orange Cap winner. During that season, he also hit a record 72 sixes and maintained a strike rate of 237.30. His international debut occurred in the recently concluded T20I series against England, where India lost the five-match series 0-4.

Sooryavanshi’s eventful tour of England included both his international cricket debut and attending one of the world’s most celebrated finals from Centre Court on Sunday, July 12, 2026.
