Wimbledon: Nosková and Muchová advance to all-Czech women’s final

Czech Duo Set for Wimbledon Final

The 2026 Wimbledon Championships women’s singles final will feature an all-Czech contest between Linda Nosková and Karolína Muchová. Both players secured their spots in the final after winning their respective semifinal matches.

Nosková, seeded ninth, defeated Marta Kostyuk, seeded twelfth, in straight sets with a score of 6-4, 6-4. Her victory was achieved in just one hour and 19 minutes. Nosková demonstrated strong performance, winning 83 percent of points at the net and converting half of her six break point opportunities against Kostyuk.

In the other semifinal, Muchová, seeded tenth, emerged victorious against Coco Gauff, seeded seventh, in a match that included a super tiebreak. This marks the first time two women representing the same nation have reached a Grand Slam final since the 2017 U.S. Open.

Nosková’s Path to the Final

At 21 years old, Nosková becomes the youngest Wimbledon finalist since Jelena Ostapenko in 2018. Her journey to the final has been marked by impressive form, including a title win in Berlin last month. She has won ten of her last eleven matches on the WTA Tour.

Nosková’s semifinal win against Kostyuk was a display of efficiency. She made her service games look straightforward, particularly in the second set where her first serve percentage was 81 percent, compared to 58 percent in the first set. Kostyuk struggled to gain a foothold against Nosková’s serve.

Nosková expressed her excitement about facing Muchová in the final, highlighting their familiarity. The two players even practiced together the night before their semifinal matches to get accustomed to Centre Court, as it was the first time playing there for both.

Nosková also shared insights into her pre-match routines, which she described as superstitious. She plans to maintain these routines, which include using the same bathroom and sink, and having the same lunch. She views Muchová as a great fighter and person, and is glad to play her first final against her.

Czech Tennis Legacy Continues

The presence of both Nosková and Muchová in the final underscores Czechia’s strong tradition in women’s tennis. One of them will join a distinguished list of compatriots who have lifted the singles trophy at Wimbledon, including Martina Navratilova, Jana Novotna, Petra Kvitova, Marketa Vondrousova, and Barbora Krejčíková.

Nosková has openly spoken about her admiration for Petra Kvitova, a two-time Wimbledon champion. Nosková recalled being particularly inspired when Kvitova won her titles, stating that it was when she realized tennis existed as a sport. She hopes to emulate Kvitova’s success at Wimbledon.

Nosková’s path to her first career Grand Slam semifinal and Wimbledon final included a victory over veteran Elise Mertens with scores of 6-3, 7-5. This achievement makes her the youngest first-time Wimbledon semifinalist since Kvitova reached the final four in 2010. Nosková has had two previous encounters with Kvitova, losing in Miami in 2023 but later winning in Cincinnati the same year.

The upcoming final guarantees a new name on the women’s singles title at Wimbledon, continuing the legacy of Czech excellence in the sport. The final is scheduled to take place on Saturday afternoon.
