FanCode Faces Stiff Competition from Genius Sports for ISL Rights

In a significant development for Indian football, FanCode has secured the exclusive digital rights for the Indian Super League (ISL) for the 2025-26 season. However, the competition is heating up as Genius Sports has submitted a staggering bid of ₹2,129 crore for a 20-year cycle linked to the league.
FanCode’s bid, in stark contrast, amounts to ₹36 crore annually with a 5 percent year-on-year increment. This disparity highlights the varying valuations of the league’s commercial potential, with Genius Sports clearly betting on a long-term vision for the ISL.
The All India Football Federation (AIFF) recently opened bids for the commercial rights of its club competitions, which include not only the ISL but also the Federation Cup, Indian Women’s League, and IWL 2. The successful bidder will enjoy the right of first refusal, a significant advantage in the competitive sports media landscape.
AIFF Deputy General Secretary M. Satyanarayan expressed gratitude towards the ISL clubs and Executive Committee members for their support in unveiling this Request for Proposal (RFP). This collaborative effort comes after the AIFF faced challenges in attracting bidders, leading to a commercial deadlock that delayed the start of the ISL 2025-26 season.
The previous agreement with the AIFF provided a fixed annual payment of ₹50 crore, a figure that now seems modest compared to the current bids. The new tender includes a clause for a 5 percent annual increment, which could significantly impact the financial landscape of Indian football.
For the upcoming season, the ISL will feature a total of 91 matches, involving 14 clubs, underscoring the league’s growing popularity and competitive nature. As the bidding process unfolds, the financial stakes are higher than ever, with both FanCode and Genius Sports vying for a pivotal role in shaping the future of Indian football.
Observers are keenly watching how this bidding war will affect the league’s operations and its financial health moving forward. Details remain unconfirmed regarding the final decision on the bids, but the implications for the AIFF and the ISL are profound.
