Airlines Face Significant Disruptions

“We are working around the clock to organise additional relief flights where operationally possible and will share further updates as soon as they are confirmed,” stated a representative from Qatar Airways. This announcement comes as the airline has suspended scheduled flights due to the closure of Qatari airspace, a situation that has created widespread disruption in air travel across the Middle East amid the ongoing US-Israel–Iran conflict.

The suspension of Qatar Airways flights will remain in effect until aviation authorities confirm that the airspace over Qatar has been safely reopened. An operational update from Qatar Airways is expected on March 7 at 09:00 Doha time (06:00 UTC), providing further clarity on the situation.

In response to the crisis, Israeli airlines have begun to implement limited outbound flights, allowing a maximum of 70 passengers per plane. This measure is part of efforts to repatriate the estimated 120,000 Israelis stranded abroad, with Ben Gurion Airport partially reopened for inbound flights. Passengers are required to use an early check-in program and arrive at the airport 1.5 hours before their scheduled departure.

Transportation Minister Miri Regev emphasized the importance of safety, stating, “This will be conducted in accordance with the recommendations of defense officials and in accordance with security developments.” The ministry has also reserved 15% of all outbound seats for humanitarian, security, diplomatic, or tourist cases, highlighting the urgency of the situation.

Additionally, flydubai has announced plans to resume flight operations to Ben Gurion Airport to assist in bringing back stranded Israelis. As of now, 20,000 Israelis have returned home by Thursday night, with another 6,040 expected to return on Friday. However, the current number of tourists still in Israel stands at 28,000, complicating the repatriation efforts.

Qatar Airways is also working to organize additional relief flights and will notify passengers when operations can safely resume. Passengers are advised not to go to the airport unless they have received official confirmation of their flights. Travelers are encouraged to update their contact details via the Qatar Airways website or mobile app to ensure they receive important information.

The situation remains unpredictable in the Middle East given the current circumstances, and details remain unconfirmed regarding when Qatari airspace will be reopened. As airlines navigate these challenges, the focus remains on ensuring the safety and security of all passengers.

Qatar Airways has expressed its apologies for the disruption caused and thanked passengers for their patience and understanding during these turbulent times. The airline’s commitment to providing timely updates reflects the ongoing efforts to manage the crisis effectively.
